Discussion Guide
God’s call does not always come at a convenient time or with a complete explanation. Jonah ran because he was afraid and didn’t want to follow God’s plan. The storm he experienced was connected to his choice to run, but not every storm we face in life is the result of something we have done. Sometimes difficult things are simply part of living in a broken world. Joseph responded even though obedience disrupted his plans. Abraham followed God but waited years to see His promise unfold. Whether God is asking us to move, trust, or wait, He invites us to trust Him with the next step.

What is something you need to get done, but continue to put it off? (Keep this fun and light before diving into the deeper questions)
1. RUN
Read Jonah 1: 1-4; 9-16
• Calling: What made God’s call difficult for Jonah?
• Response: How did Jonah respond to his fear, and who was affected by his decision?
• Result: How did God pursue Jonah and demonstrate His power? How did the sailors respond?
• Reflection: When fear makes you want to run, how can you allow God to redirect you, and how might your response help others see Him?
2. RESPOND
Read Matthew 1:18–24
• Calling: What did God ask Joseph to do, and what fears did the angel address?
• Response: What did Joseph’s response reveal about his trust in God?
• Result: How did Joseph’s obedience allow him to take part in God’s larger plan?
• Reflection: Where might God be asking you to take a step of faith, even if you can’t see the entire plan?
3. REMAIN
Read Genesis 12:1-4; 17:4-6
• Calling: What did God ask Abram to leave, and what future did He promise?
• Response: What did Abram’s decision show about trusting God without knowing every detail?
• Result: Years later, how did God’s renewed promise and Abram’s new name point to what was still to come?
• Reflection: Where might God be asking you to remain faithful even though you have not yet seen the result?

Read 1 Samuel 3:8-10
• What helped Samuel recognize that God was calling him?
• What does Samuel’s response reveal about the posture of someone who is ready to hear from God?
• Who helps you recognize and respond to God’s direction?
Action Step: This week take a moment to consider where you may be in responding to God:
• Run: Is there something you have been hesitant or afraid to face?
• Respond: Is there a next step you feel encouraged to take?
• Remain: Is God inviting you to keep trusting while you wait?
