Movies at the Cove - Week 2

Discussion Guide

We all long for a life of meaning, provision, peace, and purpose — but many times, we’re waiting on God to do something while He’s waiting on us to step forward in faith. True purpose and happiness isn’t something we achieve or something we can purchase—it's someone we know: Jesus. When we move in response to His Word, He will meet us there.

What You Will Need: A Bible or Bible app, notebook, pen, and highlighter. The verses below are linked for easy access.

 Jump Start

1. Think about the way Chris (Will Smith) kept going, even when nothing in his life looked hopeful.

 • Do you have a God-given dream or purpose you’ve quietly carried for years?

 • Have you ever felt like you were trying to obey God, but nothing seemed to be changing?

 • What keeps most people from stepping out in faith? Fear? Insecurity? Practicality?

2. Read Exodus 14:15, James 2:17

 • Why would God ask the Israelites to move before the sea was parted? What does this tell us about the nature of faith?

 • How do we sometimes disguise disobedience or fear under the label of “waiting on God”?

 • In what area of your life have you been praying for God to move — but you haven’t yet taken the step He asked for?

3. Read 1 Peter 4:12–13, Romans 5:3–4

 • Have you ever confused pain with punishment from God?

 • How might opposition actually confirm you’re walking in the right direction?

 • What’s something difficult in your life right now that might be growing your faith more than blessings ever could?

4. Read Galatians 6:9, Psalm 126:5.

 • What does it really mean to “not grow weary in doing good”? What does that look like on a Tuesday when life is chaotic?

 • Can you name a moment when your persistence eventually turned into a breakthrough? What sustained you in the waiting?

 • What would change if you believed your labor in the Lord is never wasted — even if no one sees it yet?

5. Action Steps:

 • What is the step you know God has been prompting you to take — even if it feels small, risky, or scary?

 • Is it time to stop praying about it and start walking in it?

 • What support, accountability, or courage do you need to actually follow through?

Optional Challenge: Write that step down. Tell one trusted person in the group. Ask them to check in next week.

Deeper Dive (Optional or Personal Study):

Read Luke 18:1–8, Ephesians 6:12.

 • How does the persistence of the widow inspire you? Have you given up on something too soon?

 • What does it mean that we are not just fighting circumstances — but spiritual resistance?

 • How does prayer help us press through even when we feel forgotten?

“God is not asking for your perfection. He’s asking for your obedience. Even when you don’t see the outcome, even when you feel disqualified, even when your hands are tired — keep walking. Keep stepping out. Happiness isn’t out there somewhere. It’s found in Christ — and He’s walking with you into the purpose He’s already prepared.”
