SELFLESS

Today’s Scripture: “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:14-16, NKJV
Theme: Because God calls us to unity, we seek it diligently through love and sacrifice.
UNITY THROUGH LOVE AND SACRIFICE
Love and sacrifice are the cornerstones of true unity. Consider a scene where a team rallies around a coach who is struggling, offering support and encouragement. This act of love strengthens their bond and solidifies their unity. We see this in Woodlawn when Coach Tandy visited his colored players’ Sunday morning service. With his heart open and faith restored, he stated, he “wants what his players have.” Standing with his head held high in front of God and the congregation, he shares that he believes and wants to be baptized.
The Bible emphasizes putting on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. In real life, when individuals prioritize love and are willing to make sacrifices for each other, it fosters an environment where unity thrives. This selflessness and care for one another creates an unbreakable bond, much like a team that supports each other, both on and off the field.
UPLIFT
At times, creating and starting my cleaning and landscaping business, "United,” was extremely difficult. Trying to obtain contracts, network, and build relationships with other businesses proved to be an uphill battle. I had to select staff members for their strengths and cultural, passport based on who we were negotiating with. Our bond grew like weeds, and the world's reaction made us stronger and more resilient. I will never regret being the change I wanted to see.
Make It Personal: Is there a time in your life when supporting someone else was your primary focus for a season? Did that strengthen the bond between you? Did you feel used or selfless? Did that generosity return to you in your time of need?
Pray: God, open my heart to love and sacrifice. Bless me to give without expecting anything in return. I want to be selfless in my daily life; selfless in how I love and give; selfless in my thoughts and actions. Help me to put others before myself, to see their needs, and to respond with compassion and generosity. Teach me to serve with humility and grace, finding joy in the act of giving. Fill me with Your love so that it overflows to those around me. Guide me to reflect Your selfless love in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
