UNITY OF THE SPIRIT
Rashawn Nance
Today’s Scripture: "I... urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3, ESV
Theme: When we seek God before any other goal, it allows us to keep unity in faith and purpose.
IS IT WIN OR LOSE?
In a team setting, achieving unity in faith and purpose is crucial. Just like the football team in Woodlawn, the players had to come together, putting aside individual glory for the greater good of the team. The unity they found was centered on Jesus, and that gave them a framework of faith to add to the more immediate purpose of winning the game.
This is echoed in the Bible when it speaks of maintaining the “unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” When everyone is united in their faith and purpose, they move as one cohesive unit, just as a well-coordinated team does on the field. Each member understands his or her role, and they trust their teammates to do the same, leading to a harmonious and effective effort toward their common goal. Without unity, even when we win, we lose.
Make It Personal: What is your purpose? What motivates you to get up every morning? Is it your kids or a significant other? Is it your job or a repetitive routine? We humans prefer to be in control. I just purchased a Tesla, and it blew my mind that it could drive me home without much effort on my part. Is this faith in God or Elon? I have faith God will get me home safely, but I also believe technology can get me home safely. I battle with where I put my faith. While creating an effective team is important, making sure God is at the helm is essential.
Pray: Lord, I struggle with balance. Using my abilities is important, but being led by You and allowing my gifts and faith to uplift those around me is of equal value. With Your help, I will strive for unity where I work, sleep, and worship, always putting my faith in You, God, and allowing You to use me as You see fit. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
