Daily Devotions

Today's Scripture: “Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.” 1 Kings 11:11, ESV 

Theme: Even if we have godly wisdom and influence, if we abandon our God and His laws, we will lose His favor and blessing and experience moral failure. 

Today's Scripture: "For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father." 1 Kings 11:4, ESV 

Theme: Spiritual compromise always leads to division, destruction, and captivity to sin.  

Today’s Scripture: “Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” 1 Kings 3:9, ESV 

Theme: Solomon initially honors God by humbly seeking wisdom above anything else. God tells us to do the same and promises to generously give us the wisdom we need (James 1:5). 

Today's Scripture: “And the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.’” 1 Samuel 8:7, ESV  

Theme: When His people reject God’s authority, He allows them and us to endure the result of that choice. 

Today's Scripture: “Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah and said to him, ‘Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.’” 1 Samuel 8:4-5, ESV  

Theme: Just like the children of Israel, we often ask someone else to tell us God’s plan for our lives rather than listening to God and letting Him rule and lead us Himself.
