Daily Devotions

Today’s Scripture: "But there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great." Acts 8:9, ESV 

Theme: It is easy to get sidetracked, curating our own image, focusing on followers, charisma, and greatness. 

Today’s Scripture: “But godliness with contentment is great gain” 1 Timothy 6:6, ESV 

Theme: Comparison makes us discontented; contentment builds joy. 

Today's Scripture: “... looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2, ESV  

Theme: Look to Jesus for affirmation, not other people.  

Today’s Scripture: “But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.” Galatians 6:4, ESV 

Theme: Improve your own work, focus on your own God-given calling without comparing to others.  

Today’s Scripture: “And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, ‘They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?’ And Saul eyed David from that day on.” 1 Samuel 18:8-9, ESV 

Theme: We can become angry and suspicious of people we once loved when comparisons are made, and we appear to be less respected, revered, or admired than someone else – even if we (like Saul was) are in an objectively good position.
